My cousin Keegan probably didn’t know his triple jump was gonna help promote my new single, but now he does! Ha ha ha ha ha
The story behind the song:
Mark Kozik was the best man in my wedding. We were in a band together, and he was my college roommate. Like so many others who lost their lives in 2020 and after, Mark died Dec. 19, 2021. On the one-year anniversary of his passing, I texted his older brother to share a story about Mark. I didn’t mention the obvious (That this was the one-year anniversary of his death). The meaningful response Mark’s brother gave inspired me to write this song.
He said, “I don’t love my brother any more or less on this day than I do any other day of the year. I love him the same every day. I think about him every day.” There’s a place for talking and counseling, but many times it’s best to simply be quiet and listen. Be there. Be present. Pray silently. That’s what this song is about.
I’ve never written a song like this. Its moving lines and dynamics are unlike anything I’ve ever done. This is the first of three songs I wrote about Mark.
