Darth Vader, Mark Kozik, and a New Band!
Background knowledge: My new release “Sometimes My Words Won’t Come to Me” is a grieving song about my good friend Mark Kozik. Mark was a special talent as a musician and artist. In his adult years, he designed all the parts needed to assemble a model kit for random ships he found in movies like Star Wars. He would then print the pieces out on his 3D printer and sell them to people all over the world.
Incredible gift: Mark is the youngest of five. His brother Fred is the oldest. Everyone knows Mark has a good sense of humor, so Fred decided to drill a hole in the Star Wars ship above and deposit some of Mark’s ashes. He then suspended the urn ship in a plastic rectangular prism and sent it to me as a gift! I can’t tell you how happy I am to have received this. It is a fitting monument in remembrance to the most creative person I’ve ever known.
Trigger warning for science fiction geeks: In this video I use Star Trek’s “To boldly go where no man has gone before” in reference to a Star Wars ship. Here’s the video:
Big brother love: I now have a one-of-a-kind urn to remember a friend like no other. But did my science fiction fans notice this one thing? Mark’s brother put his ashes in a TIE Fighter instead of an X-Wing. This is so awesome! Nothing better than giving your kid brother one final jab by placing his ashes in Darth Vader’s ship instead of Luke Skywalker’s. Mark’s definitely getting a good laugh in heaven over this!
New Artist: A local band named Milan & the Ellipsis just came out with a 7-song EP. One song on the EP is titled “Darth Vader Has No Friends.” Before I heard the song, I knew I would love it. I wasn’t disappointed! Look ‘em up. The whole album is great!
Question: Where else can you find uplifting, out-of-this-world stories like the ones we share on the Bluesdad substack? Not too many places! If you like these articles and look forward to reading them on Wednesdays, tell someone about it and help ‘em sign up! It’s free. As always—thank you for reading and especially listening.
